Moustache March and Associated Furry Festivities

November 1 – March 16

ENID, OK – In an effort to have some fun and raise money for local charities, I Love Enid is hosting Moustache March, a city wide moustache competition.

The furry festivities will culminate on March 16th with the city wide moustache competition.  The competition will consist of several different categories and will be judged by Josh Ward, owner of Blue Jay’s Barber Shop and Beauty Bar and Dr. John Yeutter, the 2009 runner-up for the coveted Robert Goulet Mustached American of the Year award, sponsored by the American Mustache Institute.  Most recently, Dr. Yeutter authored the Stache Act, seeking an income tax deduction for Mustached Americans (a jab at the current tax codes), and participated in the Million Mustache March on Washington DC in support of the Stache Act.  Travis Nance, third place winner of the full beard Verdi category at his first World Beard and Moustache Championships in Norway in 2011 and head of the Oklahoma City Beard Club, will be emceeing the event.

Eight moustachioed men around Enid have been chosen as the official “Moustache Ambassadors” and they have each chosen a local charitable organization to play for.  They must compete against each other to see who can raise the most money in their “’stache jar” by March 16, 2013, which is when Moustache March, the main city wide moustache competition, will be held.  Whoever raises the most money determines where the money goes.  To contribute, choose your favorite Ambassador or charity and donate to them.  They are:

Chief Brian O’Rourke – Miracle League

Captain Dean Grassino – SPCA

Eric Benson – Booker T. Washington

Frank Baker – Blazin’ Music Group

Robert Barron – SPCA

Father Stephen Samples – Habitat for Humanity

Tim Larsen – YWCA

Because moustaches are considered “gentlemanly,” the event coordinators decided that these shenanigans should be deemed somewhat fancy and encourage dressing for the occasion.  For the ladies, they are encouraging the donning of fascinators or fancy hats for the main event, much like they do for the Kentucky Derby.  There will be a prize for the Fanciest Fascinator at the March event.

Our emcee for the event is Mr. Travis Nance.  Nance is the president of the OKC Beard Club and won Bronze in the Verdi Beard category at the World Beard & Moustache Championships in Trondheim, Norway 2011.

One of our judges is the esteemed Dr. John Yeutter PhD, CPA, CFP®.  Yeutter is associate professor of Accounting and Financial Planning at Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Okla, where he teaches in the areas of tax policy, tax planning, and retirement planning. He earned a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Yeutter has sported some form of facial hair since his youth. He was a 2009 runner-up for the coveted Robert Goulet Mustached American of the Year award, sponsored by the American Mustache Institute. Most recently, Dr. Yeutter authored the Stache Act, seeking an income tax deduction for Mustached Americans, and participated in the Million Mustache March on Washington DC in support of the Stache Act.
